Sissonville High School is thrilled to announce the hiring of Mike Hughes as its Head Football Coach.

Read Coach Hughes’ welcome letter to the Sissonville community:

Players, Parents, and Fans,

I am honored to accept the role of Head Football Coach of the Sissonville Indians. I look forward to working together with you all this season and for many seasons to come. There is a lot of work to do, but I am confident we can make this season a success.

A little about me: I have been a football coach for nine years. In those nine years, I have coached at many places in the Kanawha Valley. At each of those stops, I have learned the do’s and do-nots that have made me the coach that I am today. It is with these experiences that I am confident in facing whatever challenges may arise this season and in the future.

I am a graduate of West Virginia State University and am currently enrolled at West Virginia University in pursuit of a Master of Arts in Literacy Education. I view the football field as an extension of the classroom where young people can learn the skills needed to help them succeed in life. Tenacity, perseverance, grit, and heart will be the cornerstones on which we will build our program.

With me, I bring an extremely knowledgeable staff that covers over 150 years of combined coaching experience. I am well aware of the challenges we face as a team and as a program, but I am confident that together, through maximum effort, we can right the ship and accomplish things previously thought impossible. All it takes is you. I look forward to working together as a team and as a community!
